Quark synchrotron radiation in strongly coupled plasma

Nuclear and Particle Physics

Ho, Ying-Yu

With gauge/gravity duality, we investigate quark synchrotron radiation in strongly coupled N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory when a strongly coupled plasma is present. After obtaining the dual gravity description of the rotating quark, the resulting Einstein field equations are solved numerically, giving the pattern of synchrotron radiation. Specifically, we compute the time derivative of energy density in regions near and far from the quark. Despite the strong-coupling nature of the system, the radiation pattern shows some similarity to electromagnetic radiation, which is a weakly coupled phenomenon. We hope that our results can bridge our understanding of QCD, a strongly coupled theory that describes quarks and gluons in our world.
